Our Favorite Homemade Tartar Sauce
We can't fry fish without having some of our favorite homemade tartar sauce at the ready. It's the just right mix of tartness to creaminess that makes each bite of that fried fish worth waiting for!
This recipe will make about 1 1/2 cups of tartar sauce.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup of dill pickles finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon of dill, fresh or frozen OR 1 tablespoon of finely chopped fresh parsley (Note: Dill will give you a more authentic flavor than the parsley.)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice (Fresh is best, but who always has a lemon hanging around the kitchen?)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper, freshly ground.
- 2 tablespoons onion, finely chopped, optional. (BTW: when it comes to onions, I'm a sweet onion kind of gal. Yellow or white onions are fine, red is awesome.... but my favorite is a good old Walla Walla or Vidalia.)
Instructions:
Combine these delicious ingredients in a bowl and give it a taste. Does it need a little more pickle? How about lemon juice? Onion? Do whatever little tweaks it needs to be that perfect tartar sauce for you. And, if you do make any changes that you like, be sure to write them down so you know what to do the next time you need to make some.
Now, get up, get cooking, and go eat!
